This week I decided to dig a bit deeper into the 'Boho Chic' theme seen in my previous posts. By using one of the worlds biggest fashion forecasting sites (WGSN) I was able to discover the meaning behind the trend and how it came to be.

Out of the 4 Megatrends that WGSN put together for A/W 16/17, I chose the OffBeat trend as the one that relates most back to 'Boho Chic'. This Megatrend focuses on the connection between art and fashion. This trend heavily relies on the combination of colour and texture seen in both forms creating stimulating designs that reawaken the senses.

The first thing I notice about this Megatrend in relation to my 'Boho Chic' trend is the colour pallet. All of the typical reoccurring colours that I have noticed during my findings appeared in the OffBeat colour pallet. Bohemian fashion often combines quite bright colours with earthy tones which together create a nice balance.

This slide relates back to the 'Boho Chic' theme as I found textures to be a common trait throughout the trend, in particularly ruffles and tassels.

This slide however, directly references the boho connection to the theme. Combining a mix of art and culture helps make the trend what it is.

Conclusion:

I visited Emporium earlier this month to source current trends that I saw reoccurring in the window displays of the centre. The three groups of trends that I narrowed down my findings to were: 'The Leather Jacket', 'Boho Chic' and 'Cosy Knits'.

Out of these 3 trends identified, I picked one that I wanted to explore further (Boho Chic). The further I looked into this trend the more I saw it in our current fashion stores, runways, magazines and other such sources.

To get a proper understanding of my trend I traced back the origin on WGSN Megatrends and was able to look further into the influences and meanings behind it.

The Boho theme has been used for many years and can be interpreted in many different ways. Overall I think it is clear that modern-day designers that have recreated the Bohemian trend drew inspiration from the OffBeat Meggatrend as there is a lot that the two trends have in common.
